Hi, my name is, what? My name is, who? My name is Cha Cha, Charl-sye

Excuse me, can I have the attention of whomever is reading my blog for one second?

I am a Senior, at Longwood University; majoring in Communications, with a concentration in Digital Media. Since I was a child, I have loved listening to Hip Hop and R&B. My music tastes range from the ’60s to the present day. Some could say I have an old soul; but I just have a love for good music, no matter what generation it comes from. If you listen to music from back in the day until now you can see a drastic change. I appreciate the creativity that the artists of the past had, and what present-day artists have. I also enjoy listening to music to reveal, or discover, samples that newer artists have used. Not to toot my own horn, but I would say that I am somewhat of an expert in Hip Hop and R&B. Music isn’t something I just listen to casually, to pass the time, its “to relax my mind so I can be free and absorb sound that keep me ‘round — Doin my thang, constantly with no worries.” Hip Hop and R&B describe two, of my many, different personalities when talking about music. This blog will consist of me introducing myself, and why I chose to talk about Hip Hop and R&B. Over the next few weeks, I will be writing about ‘the ins and outs’ of these genres. From the simplicity of top artists that we all know, to the Underground world of Hip Hop and R&B that may not be as commercialized.

I hope to engage my audience, through creative ways of informing them about the Hip Hop and R&B music genres. I don’t want to bore you by having an ordinary discussion about these particular genres. However, to catch your attention — I’ll be using a song that you may know, or heard before, to describe the topic of the day. Want me to explain? Okay, so if my topic is about the top male R&B singers of the decade; my title is going to be “It’s a Man’s World” — while adding in some lyrics; because once you hear the title you’re going to want to sing it too, right? Or, using the song “Rags to Riches” to explain how Hip Hop was a forbidden genre that people didn’t think was going to last the test of time; but now it’s number one in the world. The reason why I chose music, as a blog, is because I feel like if artists and writers can use their creativity in the song — then I should add in their songs to spice up my blog a little.

My next post will focus on how hip hop was once a forbidden genre; now it is ranked number one in the world. It is interesting to me that a genre of music, that was minimized as a fad, was ranked number one the first time in US history in 2017 — to present day. Come join me next week for more of yesterday’s hits and today’s favorites.

Just Like Music

I look at music as being my secret getaway, in a sense. I like to escape through the lyrics; while enjoying the rhythm and flow of the beats.
